Margherita Pizza
This is a super easy recipe for a classic Margherita Pizza. My family are a huge Pizza fan's and as I’ve said before we make Pizza almost every weekend at home. However, we wanted to try something that’s a little bit healthier and this Margherita Pizza is just that. We’ve never had Margherita Pizza before but we’re always on the lookout for new Pizza recipes.
While we were on wikipedia researching the history of Pizza we came across the story of Queen Margherita and how this Pizza was named after her. Apparently during her travels around Italy, she saw many peasants eating this flat bread and she ordered her guards to bring her some. Well, she fell in love with this flat bread and ordered chef Rafaelle Esposito to make her some. Chef Rafaelle decided to make her a very special pizza, because the queen was really loved by the people. To honor her he decided to make her a pizza with tomatoes, mozarella cheese and basil to represent to colors of the Italian flag, red, white and green. And this is how Margherita Pizza came to be.
I used my usual easy pizza dough recipe which I rubbed with some olive oil. I sliced up a garlic clove into really thin slices and sprinkled it over the pizza, but if you want you can just rub the garlic for the flavor. Top with sliced tomatoes and slices of fresh mozzarella cheese, or you could use shredded mozzarella cheese if you prefer. Add some freshly ground pepper and don’t add the basil little oreganoy, bake it as usual, at 500 F degrees for about 10 to 15 minutes.
After the pizza is baked add the fresh basil to it and you’ve got a gorgeous pizza with the colors of the Italian flag.
INSTRUCTIONS
